Simulation Consulting Services

We have been providing expert simulation-consulting services since 1978 in such application areas as defense, manufacturing, communications networks, transportation, services, and healthcare. The following are typical consulting services that we provide and representative clients:

  • Complete simulation studies – ConocoPhillips, Hewlett-Packard, Kal Kan, Kimberly-Clark, M&M/Mars, Tropicana, U.S. Army
  • Validation/evaluation of existing simulation models – Booz Allen & Hamilton, Defense Modeling and Simulation Office, Ford, ITT, Stanley Black & Decker, U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps
  • Statistical analyses – Accenture, Ford, NIST, Oak Ridge National Lab, Office of Naval Research, SAIC
  • Evaluation/selection of simulation software – CACI, International Paper, ProModel Corp., Sandia National Labs, 3M, U.S. Army
  • Litigation support – Fried & Frank, Jones Day, MBHB
  • White papers – Boeing, Swedish Defence Materiel Administration

Simulation Consulting Projects

Client Description of Work
Accenture We developed an enhanced statistical package for analyzing data for simulation models – used by their consultants worldwide.
Booz Allen & Hamilton We evaluated a simulation model of space-vehicle launches at Cape Canaveral.
Brooks Automation We performed a comprehensive evaluation of the AutoMod simulation package – many suggested improvements were implemented.
Celera Genomics We developed a simulation model to study the staffing and equipment requirements for a new system to sequence the human genome.
Cellular One We developed simulation and analytic models to evaluate the difference in availability of two cellular-phone networks – showed that the proposed networks could meet performance requirements.
ConocoPhillips  We developed a simulation model to evaluate the impact of an expansion of the Seaway Pipeline.
Defense Modeling & Simulation Office (DMSO) We developed new methodologies for validating large-scale simulation models. We also developed reports on validating models based on neural networks and genetic algorithms.
Kaiser Aluminum We showed that the capacity of a proposed heat-treating furnace was more than required – resulted in a $3,000,000 savings.
Kal Kan We developed a simulation model of a carrier-conveyor system that was used to transport ground-meat products to a separate cannery facility – several proposed "improvements" were shown to have little impact.
Kimberly-Clark We showed that two pulpers rather than three could achieve the desired throughput for a tissue manufacturing system – resulted in a $1,400,000 savings.
M&M/Mars We developed a model to analyze the operation and control logic for a new pod conveyor system for the M&Ms packaging area – showed that changes in the control logic would improve system performance.
ProModel Corporation We performed a comprehensive evaluation of the ProModel optimization module – many significant improvements were suggested.
Swedish Defence Materiel Administration We developed a comprehensive white paper on the current and future status of simulation technology.
3M We recommended simulation software for manufacturing and process reengineering applications.
Tropicana We developed a simulation model to evaluate different scheduling strategies for using large holding tanks between juice production and bottling.
U.S. Army We developed a simulation model to determine the optimal policy for monitoring a set of enemy communications networks in order to maximize the information obtained.

Testimonials

The simulation model showed that the capacity of our existing transportation system could handle the anticipated workload, which kept us from purchasing new equipment that cost more than $52,000,000. The success of this project guaranteed that our company would use simulation in the future.
